“Migration 4″ by Doug Rhodehamel
Posted on Friday, July 3rd, 2009
On July 2nd, we hosted a gallery opening for one of Orlando’s favorite sons—Doug Rhodehamel (he’s the one responsible for the random paper-bag mushroom clusters that used to mysteriously show up on downtown lawns every once in a while). Doug spent countless hours shaping matchbook covers in to tiny little “hammerhead cows” for his “Migration 4″ installation and we also hung his adorable “Foster Cow” painting series that he had done some years ago. It was an awesome excuse to pile a bunch of people into the studio. And what fun! Keeping with a cowboy theme, we served beans and weenies and beef jerkey (ew!)…and indulged in a little whiskey-drinking (not to mention the vodka/lemonade straight out of an igloo cooler)
Doug sold 24 of his 30 paintings, so safe to say that there are handful of happy homes with colorful cows hanging on their walls. Thanks to all of you who came out! If you’d like to find out more about Doug and his art, visit his website and surf through the archives.
